Can a food truck have a bathroom?

It can, but it usually doesn't need one. Texas says a food vending vehicle doesn't need its own restroom, as long as toilet rooms are available to employees during all hours of operation. Instead, health departments ask where staff will use a restroom near where you park.

Distance rules vary. Los Angeles County wants approved toilet and handwashing facilities within 200 feet travel distance when the truck is stopped for more than an hour. NACCHO's checklist uses 200 feet for operations over 2 hours. King County, Washington requires a plumbed customer restroom within 500 feet if you offer seating.

An onboard toilet takes floor space and plumbing from a small kitchen, so check with the office that issues your health permit before you plan one.
