How wide is a food truck?
A step van food truck is usually 89 or 95 inches wide outside and 86 or 93 inches wide inside, going by Morgan Olson's step van body specs. On the National Network of highways, federal rules hold commercial vehicles to 102 inches wide, not counting mirrors and handholds.
Usable width is less than the bare shell. Wall panels and insulation take a few inches, and on the Morgan Olson body the rear wheel boxes leave a 41-inch clear aisle between them at floor level. With 30-inch-deep equipment on one wall, a 93-inch interior leaves about 63 inches. With equipment on both walls, it leaves about 33.
Trailers run wider inside. A Renown 8.5x20 cargo trailer is 96 inches wall to wall. The food truck dimensions guide compares step vans and trailers, and the step van entry explains the body.
